PROSPECT OF USING ENTOMOPATHOGENIC NEMATODES FOR INSECT PEST’S MICROBIAL CONTROL IN UKRAINE

Abstract


Crop protection in Ukraine is predominantly based on chemical pesticides and using of microbial pest control is limited currently. This article comprises a study to evaluate availability of microbiological pesticides in Ukraine and defying a new perspective microbial agents, in particulary, entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs). Comparative review on researches and potential for using of Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) from family Steinernematidae and Heterorhabditidae in biocontrol programs in Ukraine is provided. The obvious high virulence oflocally indigenous H. bacteriophora to Lepidoptera, Coleoptera species and pathogenicy of S. carpocapsaeto Orthoptera (G. grillotalpa) could make this nematodes as potential microbial pest control agent and alternative to chemical pesticides. For introducing of entomopathogenic nematodes into biocntrol programs it is necessary to prioritize search for indigenous isolates. It will also contribute to the extending knowledge of nematode biodiversity and genetic variations.
